What is systems modelling?
Complex relationships involving feedback loops and delayed impacts are everywhere in ecological, business and economic systems — from climate change and resource depletion to housing markets and financial instability.
Simulation models extend static diagrams by showing how a system behaves and evolves, not just how its parts are connected. This makes it an extremely powerful tool for understanding and communicating complexity.
Our Mission
Orla’s mission is to become the platform people use to design, visualise and trial better economic systems. It grew from a desire to make systems modelling more dynamic, intuitive and accessible, combining rigorous models with a visual, interactive way to explore how complex systems behave over time.
Our ambition is to build a leading systems-modelling platform for learners, teachers, researchers, analysts and decision-makers. The long-term goal is to enable better economics and more informed decisions across human, environmental and business systems — helping people understand their connections and test better ways of designing them.
Meet the founder
Matt Bittlestone
Matt founded Orla to help people understand complex economic and financial systems with greater clarity. He holds first-class degrees in Mathematics from Oxford and Ecological Economics from Leeds, and is a Chartered Global Management Accountant.
He brings over 15 years of experience in technology firms and startups. Through his Accounting Intuition courses, he has taught over 100,000 learners how business accounting works. That interest in making complex ideas understandable runs through Orla.
